Feeling comfortable in your own skin

Yogawoman - Thursday, February 17, 2011

I think one of the main benefits of yoga is being more at home in our own skin.  Whether we’re a large person or very slight and through the seasons of our lives, this body is our particular garden to take care of.  Then we start to have more respect and therefore more embodied dignity in the body.  Rather than treating it like an object and comparing it to the ideal that we see in glamour magazines.

Sarah Powers

Working to be at home in my own skin feels like a constant quest. 90% of American women are dissatisfied with their body image? Sarah Powers so beautifully write about this benefit of yoga, yet it still feels like a difficult journey for so many of us. When my mind starts its daily critique of my body I say to myself “ This is a waste of time, stop now and use this time to think more uplifting thoughts.”

How do you stay respectful, accepting and even delighted in your body?
